Stock Your Cabinets: Common Ingredients for Do-It-Yourself Recipes

Stock your pantry with these essential DIY beauty skincare ingredients // MeredithTested.wordpress.com

Avoid DIY-ntimidation by stocking your pantry with a few simple ingredients. Start with one or two and build from there. While I’ve dabbled with some different DIY beauty and skincare recipes, here are the ingredients I come back to over and over again to use mostly on their own and sometimes in combination.

…You might already have a lot of these in your cabinets, score!

Coconut Oil – light moisture and light scent anywhere you need it, applied to cotton balls to remove eye makeup, avoid face if you’re like me and easily get clogged pores
Tea Tree Oil – mixed in with shampoo to calm scalp itching, applied sparingly directly to breakouts
Other popular essential oils: Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Orange, Lavender
Witch Hazel – cold sore care, mild face toner, applied directly to breakouts (huge list of other uses here)
Hydrogen Peroxide (3% solution) – mouth rinse/mild tooth whitener, cleans up lots of stuff really well – including blood
Olive Oil (also: Avocado Oil, Sweet Almond Oil) – mixed with sugar as a scrub, applied to cotton balls to remove eye makeup, on the ends of hair after a shower
Honey – applied directly to breakouts, mix with a few drops of tea tree oil for an acne face mask, mix with sugar for a lip scrub
Lemon (Juice) – to freshen hair between shampoos, to lighten hair, and (try at your own risk) to use on face as an acne treatment
Sugar (Raw/unbleached is best) – mixed with oil, honey or lemon to exfoliate lips, legs

What are your go-to DIY ingredients? Anything on this list you typically avoid?

xo, Meredith
